Supplier of Microcrystalline Wax

High-quality microcrystalline wax for cosmetics, food, and industrial applications – available from reliable supplier

Microcrystalline Wax Overview

Microcrystalline wax is a refined petroleum-derived wax composed of solid, saturated hydrocarbons, mainly branched paraffins. Unlike paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax varies significantly in characteristics depending on the crude oil source, refining method, and degree of purification. Some varieties are soft and ductile, like beeswax, while others are hard or brittle. It is produced either from petroleum residue through refining or by extracting oils from petroleum jelly using solvents. The properties of microcrystalline wax can be controlled via solvent temperature, and common separation methods include chilling, centrifugation, filtration, and solvent dilution.

Chemically, microcrystalline wax consists primarily of saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. Its fine crystalline structure, flexibility, moisture resistance, and adhesive properties make it a versatile raw material across multiple industries, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and industrial applications.

Applications and Uses of Microcrystalline Wax

Microcrystalline wax’s unique physical and chemical properties allow it to serve diverse purposes:

  • Cosmetics: Used in lipsticks, lip balms, creams, and lotions to provide smooth texture, emollient effects, and flexibility.

  • Pharmaceuticals: Applied as a coating for tablets and capsules, protecting against moisture and enhancing swallowability.

  • Food Processing: Functions as a glazing agent for fruits and vegetables, extending shelf life, and in moisture-resistant food packaging.

  • Candles: Blended with other waxes to improve burning characteristics, scent retention, and burn time.

  • Polishes & Coatings: Enhances furniture polish, shoe polish, and automotive wax, providing glossy finishes and moisture protection.

  • Rubber & Plastics: Acts as a lubricant, release agent, and plasticizer during manufacturing.

  • Paper & Printing: Used in coatings for glossy paper and cardboard to improve smoothness, printability, and water resistance.

  • Electrical Insulation: Incorporated into wires and cables for insulation and moisture protection in harsh conditions.

  • Adhesives: Improves adhesion, flexibility, and binding properties in adhesive formulations.

  • Textiles: Provides water repellency, fabric conditioning, and lubrication for sewing threads.

These applications highlight microcrystalline wax as a highly versatile industrial and commercial material.

Handling and Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

  • Avoid exposure to open flames or sparks as waxes are flammable.

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling large quantities.

  • Keep containers tightly closed to prevent contamination and moisture absorption.

Packing and Transportation

  • Packed in 25 kg, 50 kg, or 200 kg drums, depending on customer requirements.

  • It can also be supplied in bulk bags for industrial use.

  • Suitable for containerized shipping; ensure drums are properly sealed to avoid leakage.

  • Transport under ambient temperature conditions, avoiding extreme heat.
