Türkiye and the EU are in a customs union for industrial goods. Sodium hydroxide under HS 2815 11 and 2815 12 travelling with an A.TR movement certificate enters EU member states free of customs duty. Non-preferential origins pay the EU third-country rate, commonly cited at 5.5% of the customs value. For FTA partners outside the union — Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Georgia, Serbia, the United Kingdom and others — a EUR.1 does the same job.

Reading the density row
2.13 g/cm³ is the true crystal density of pure sodium hydroxide and is the figure most datasheets print. It is not the number to use for stowage or silo sizing — for that you need the bulk density of 1,100–1,300 kg/m³ for flakes, which is why both are listed above. Getting these two confused is the most common cause of a container being planned for the wrong weight.

Turkish Chemical Compliance: KKDIK, SEA and KDV

KKDIK — Turkish REACH
Substances placed on the Turkish market require pre-registration and then full registration through the KKS system, on a tonnage-banded timetable: 31 December 2026 for 1,000 t/y and above, 31 December 2028 for 100–1,000 t/y, and 31 December 2030 for 1–100 t/y. A manufacturer outside Türkiye normally appoints a Turkish Only Representative to carry the obligation.
SEA — classification & labelling
Türkiye's SEA regulation is the GHS-based counterpart of EU CLP. Sodium hydroxide classifies as Skin Corr. 1A (H314) and Met. Corr. 1 (H290). Labels and safety data sheets for the Turkish market must be in Turkish, prepared by a certified SDS author, and uploaded through the Ministry's SDS system.
KDV — Turkish VAT
Domestic sales inside Türkiye carry KDV at the standard rate of 20%, normally recoverable as input VAT by a registered business. Export sales are zero-rated, which is why an FOB Mersin invoice to an overseas buyer carries no Turkish VAT and why domestic list prices are not directly comparable with FOB export levels.
